Springtime

Spring has arrived in Johannesburg with hot days and powerful thunderstorms (well, we’ve had one so far). I just love this time of year and one of the songs I’ve listened to on repeat is Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey.  I found this beautiful cover on YouTube and actually prefer it to Lana’s version!

Have a wonderful weekend, dear readers!

Just a Minute in October

Just Minute is a fun series by Daydream Lily. At the beginning of each month I give a little update about my life at that moment. I haven’t done one of these posts in a while!

Feel free to play along on your blog or in the comments!

Reading… Still reading The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. I’ve been reading this book for a few months (so sad, I know) but I just can’t seem to finish it.

Drinking… Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. I recently purchased an Aeropress and I am loving how easy and quick it is to brew a decent cup of coffee at home. Definitely recommended!

Listening to… Matthew Mole. This South African guy writes the sweetest songs that just melts my heart. Like this one.

Watching… I started watching Gilmore Girls again. It seems that whenever change is looming on the horizon I turn to Stars Hollow.

Loving… Spring is in the air and I am loving it! Spring blossoms and sunny days. New beginnings. Spring is such a lovely time of the year.

Have a wonderful week, dear readers!

I came, I saw, I tasted…

Over the weekend I visited the Good Food and Wine Show at the Coca-Cola Dome and had such a good time. I was able to see two of my favourite chefs in action at the Bosch Celebrity Chefs Theatre – Hayden Quinn and Gary Mehigan! Both made seafood pasta dishes and I’m definitely inspired to try cooking more seafood dishes and being more adventurous in cooking. Gary shared a lot of wisdom with the audience – both about cooking and life! One thing he said is that the kids in Junior Masterchef are so good because they cook without fear of failure and they take advice to heart. Something we lose as adults.

As a self-professed coffee junkie I tasted some coffee from different exhibitors in search of the best cup of coffee. Unfortunately I am unable to make a definite judgement but my conclusion is that South Africa is embracing the coffee culture and I am excited to see what the future holds! I also got to taste a LOT of yummy food and sweets. It was the perfect day to explore my inner foodie!

Here are some pics I took during the day (taken and edited with my iPhone)

I Miss This…

In case you were wondering, I did not disappear off the face of the earth. The reason behind my long absence was that I’ve found it difficult to balance full time work and my blog. I haven’t read any of my favourite blogs in months. I can honestly say that I really missed the creative outlet of regular blogging.

I decided to post again tonight because of a motivational talk we had at work today. The fundamental message was that you should never lose what you’re passionate about. Be authentic in who you are and make time for activities you enjoy outside of work. I think I really needed to hear that, since I often lean towards workaholic tendencies. So I am going to try my best to keep the blog updated and to check in on my favourite blogs more often.

So fill me in – what’s been happening in the blogging world? How are you doing, dear readers?

Saturday and Polka Dots

Lately this thing called life has been taking up every moment and I have rarely had the opportunity to just sit down and blog. So sorry about things being a bit quiet around here. I am still around and pretty active on the social networks like Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. So give me a shout on there if you want.

Today I had a bit of a Crafting Saturday. I had seen this on Pinterest earlier this week and it got me thinking. I’ve had these plain white mugs for over a year now and I’ve been wondering how I can make them cuter. Well obviously – Polka Dots! It took me a while to get the dots right with regards to spacing, but luckily the sharpie was forgiving in that I could just wipe it off if I wasn’t happy. The rest of the process was just to put the mugs in the oven for 30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Easy peasy!

I’m quite happy with the end product!
